My left tail light is extremely dim. At night it barely looks like its on. I tried messing with it, unplugging it and plugging it back but no success.
If I purchase the Ebay LED lights would it make a difference? I was thinkin about "upgrading" to the LED look anyway. Any advice?

It might be a bad ground in the plug housing. Try lightly sanding the exposed metal contacts on both the bulb and the mounting plug - they might have some old gunk on them or mild corrosion. Happens in my old 535i all the time.

It's on the way out. Have it checked out as it may be caused by a faulty bulb socket.

x5 taillights are none to burn themselves out. might as well buy some LEDS or buy oem tails. unless you can clean and solder the ground board on the taillight then you'll be fine

What usually happens when they get real bad is where the bulb holder socket contacts the metal backing it burns a hole through the metal and melts the plastic behind it allowing the metal to pull in.
What you could do is either use this as an excuse for some different tails, or repair them by pulling the plastic back out flush if need be and filling behind it with epoxy to keep it flush, them sanding out the hole in the metal and filling it with solder, then file flat. I am actually trying to get a pair of the 04 and up tails that are burnt through the shop as they are replaced to repair and smoke/tint for myself My trucks but end could use an update too! (If anyone has those burnt housings and hasn't thrown them away yet, I'll gladly take them off your hands)
