Lower tailgate question

Do the lower tailgate stay locked when you close it? Or can it stay locked? Pressing the button on the lower taigate would ativate the locking mechanism seemingly trying to "lock" the tailgate but "unlock" again . Thanks.

Huh? The button unlocks it. When you slam it shut it locks itself.

Thanks. It will not lock with the lower tailgate in place and the upper tailgate lifted up. But with the upper tailgate in closed position, both tailgates locks itself. I am guessing that the lower tailgate is locking as there is no way to tell - the upper tailgate overlap the lower tailgate in the closed position.

The lower section locks independently. This happens automatically when you shut it (you should hear the motors clicking into place) and manually by pressing the button on the top lid of the gate to open - again you should hear the clicking sound.

Is it clicking? If not, sounds like the lower lock has failed and the top tailgate has been holding it in place.

Thanks. No sound when I shut/close the lower section. If I press the button, I do hear the motor locking but it unlocks again. What am I suppose to look for?

Thanks for that. I had another closer look at the locking mechanism. Well, it was not locking when the lower tailgate is shut! A bit of adjustment on the two hinges, close/push the lower tailgate shut and lo and behold a couple of "clicks" and the tailgate is locked . Press the button and it unlock Maybe the bit of rattle at the back will now go away for good...........Thanks. Great stuff and fantastic forum.

Good work .

A good for reducing/removing the rattle is to attach a small, round felt pad - similar to the ones you might put on furniture legs to protect floors - to each of the upper tailgate points where the two rubber things on the boot surround meet.
