help!! 01 3.0 tranny problem

hi, here is a weird problem ive encountered this past weekend. after driving in the rain/snow, my tranny light came on w the usual harsh up and dwn shifts. At times the light will just go off and drive fine. from reading the forums it seems as though it may be a water in the connector problem. Can someone tell me what i may do, or better yet is there a way to read the tranny code w/o a bmw code reader? i hooked up the engine scanner but it has no codes for the engine nor tranny!
