MID pixel repair
hey, i've done a search on the topic and got some good instructions on how to clean the connections inside the dash. i just wanted to know if anyone else has done this or if there is something else i should know before i pull the cluster apart. thanks

Have you tried going through BMW NA for a good-will repair for the bad-pixel issue? When I got my 02 x5 the cluster was pretty bad, I did a little research and contacted Leonora Vlaovich, a BMW NA rep who handled these things... if you search through the threads a lot of people have done this as well... My X was out of warranty, but BMW NA did a one-time goodwill repair for this, paid for the part, cost my 1hr labor at my dealer.

they will repair the cluster just not the radio MID

I used this write up to repair my radio MID and it worked like a charm.

Eric, I fixed your MID from Peter. Writeup of E38 MID repair

Our radio is a little different than the one being used in the write up--screw placement, etc--but once it's open, you should be able to figure it out. All you're really hunting for is where the ribbon attach's to the board.

planning this tomorrow, did you notice they came back brighter overall.

Moth did you manage to sort your's out? my pixels went 'bad' only on the actual radio/cd player and not the dash/instrument display, funnily enough got a bit better the next day....but would be good to know if you fixed it...
