Unhappy Self Leveling Suspension

I have a problem with the air suspension on my 2003 model X5. When I park my car the front RH side suspension sometimes lowers to the access level while the while the rest of the suspensions stays at the normal ride hight. When I open the door or put the key in the ignition the RH suspension returns to the normal hight. I also sometimes get the Self Leveling Suspension Inactive warning while driving along and the suspension goes to it highest setting. This resets it's self after a day or 2 or it sometimes resets if you go over a bump or do a LH U turn!!
I've had the suspenion levels set by a BMW dealer but the problem keeps coming back.

Do a thread search, it's a known problem and your dealer should know what to replace to fix it.

Thanks for your help, I'll do a search and see what turns up. As for the dealer, the one in Bahrain is useless and taking across to Saudi Arabia is a wast of time as well..

That's too bad. I don't have direct experience with this problem, but like I said it has been discussed quite well, and recently in fact, and I'm sure you can pick up some useful info to aid diagnosis.

Darrin,

I had the same problem with the left rear air chamber ... it had a small leak ... I replaced it and everything went back to normal

it looks like this (part #1)

and the cost for the part was around 900 Saudi Riyal if I remember correctly

Good Luck!

I had the same problem and it lasted two months, gradualy gettin worse. I first took the truck to a private garage and then the dealership so they could check the computer codes. The stealer replaced both front air leveling modules and still the problem returned. It was eventually tracked to a small pinhole inside the front right air strut. I replaced the strut and the problem was fixed.

Weasel will become famous soon enough
With one corner bleeding down it is usually the air strut. If you spray the bottom of the bag on the strut with a soap water mix you should see it turn white with tinny little bubbles.
