WTF PROBLEM FIXED- A bogus (for me) procedure on this site may have ruined my car!!

I used the procedure listed for reprogramming the keys on my 2001 X5, the one that says to lock the door, press open button twice, then lock..... I did it to both my keys. Then I get into the car, turn the ignition, all seems fine, the keys lock and unlock like normal, ignition lights up like normal, then when I go to start my car, the engine runs for about 1 second, then shuts off. Both keys are like this. I unplugged the battery for about a minute to see if that would help but there's no difference. can anyone help?

It seems that procedure erased the codes in my keys Can anyone help me reprogram my keys??

It was this procedure here

I think you have a secondary problem. There is nothing in that article that would de-program your ignition. Sorry. Call Tom Wolfe at Russel BMW and explain your issue.

No, it worked literally seconds before performing this procedure.

Again, following those instruction per that article do nothing to the ignition of the car. Not saying your car worked or didn't. Call Tom. He'll help you out.

The procedure itself is definitely not bogus as that procedure fixes many a keyless entry problem.

Might it have had something to do with your issue......yes..it might have!?!?!

..but as stated above you have a secondary issue going on.....contact your dealer Monday morning and/or the above stated individual..

i'm sorry to hear you are going through this issue as I am going through an issue with my keyless entry not working any more....i have tracked it down to my control module.......

Good luck!

Rich

ok, I got the vehicle running. As I stated before, it would run for a sec and shut off. This time, I revved it up to a couple thousand rpm for a few seconds to keep it from turning off. On the second attempt, the car did not shut off. It now starts and runs fine

EXCEPT....

The yellow "BRAKE" and yellow "ABS" lights stay on in addition to the yellow TRIAngle with an arrow circling around it

Can someone tell me what that triangle means?

Could there be a fuse that blew perhaps? Is there a fuse or relay that controls the ABS and BRAKE together? Where might that be found?

Talking

OK, another update:

It works just fine now.

I decided to take the car around the block to see if it would matter.
I start car, put brake, reverse, I back out of garage, press brake again, and all the warning lights switch off!!

Only problem was the keys needed to be reprogrammed to lock/unlock the door, which I did using the methjod listed here.

That was one big WTF incident. Which I was in serious panic mode (the car's my wifes) Everything works fine now, so lesson learned (I guess).

AND THE BEST PART OF THIS? During this whole WTF incident, my wife went to the movies with our daughter and some friends and she'll never know a thing about how I almost screwed her car up

You didn't screw her car up so you should tell her about your experience.
Both of you will get a good laugh at your expense and eating some self
