Angry My baby is being mean to me...

So last weekend my DSC/ABS lights come on while I'm driving, no big deal... I just pull her in the shop after work and read the faults. Got fault stored for right rear wheel speed sensor. So I swapped the rear abs sensors from left to right (same sensors) and cleared the faults to see if it stayed at that wheel or moved with the sensor. A few days later the light came on again, checked it.... the fault stayed put and didn't follow the sensor. I'm thinking this isn't a good sign!

So today I'm driving around with my mother in the truck, going to eat lunch and stuff... the DSC/ABS lights come on again, then she goes into trans failsafe with a slam so hard I thought I got rear ended, while driving at 40 mph! So I pull into my stall at the dealer (only a couple miles away, and this is my Saturday off) read the faults, still has the right rear wheel speed sensor fault (intermittent fault) and to boot now has a currently present fault for the right front wheel speed sensor! I check to see if it's reading through diagnostic requests... it isn't. I swap the front sensors left to right just as I did the backs (yet again same sensors) and the fault stayed at that wheel again (not reading r/f wheel speed at all). And the fault in the transmission module that caused the failsafe operation was loss of vehicle speed through wheel speed.

At this point I have confirmed it to myself that the DSC module is going out and needs to be replaced... The question now is whether or not BMW will help me out with a goodwill situation as they are really hesitant to do that sort of thing for employees for some reason... But I am hopeful because I do meet all requirements for it. I guess I will be talking to my managers and field reps on Monday with my fingers crossed! If they don't help me out this might cost me a bit.

You could easily find a used one if BMWNA doesn't lend a hand, no?

The only 2 X5s at my location that could be used for parts are 3.0i models that have different DSC modules than mine, and did I mention they were under water during hurricane Katrina! I would end up buying a new one through our parts department...

BMW Parts used and rebuilt bmw auto parts is the largest BMW parts recycler in the country. I'm sure they could get you a 4.6is one.

I imagine that a new DSC control module can't be cheap even with employee discount.

No, it won't be... I'm hoping it will be under $1000 my cost. Will check on Monday.

Sorry to read about this Weasel. You're lucky in a way 'cause you can replace the DSC module yourself, not sure how many other members could accomplish this (I couldn't and I wouldn't want to try it). Good luck with repairs.

It would be down to the few that have their own GT1's that would be able to fully replace it themselves. (I will end up with a laptop GT1 in my toolbox by the time BMW phases it out to use only the new stuff)

And an update, just got back from making a trip to the store for some more whiskey for tonight, not a light on, not a problem... drove perfect! It's like she knows I'm mad at her.... I still need to name her, but that'll be another day when the right name comes to mind.

So, I guess this means its an intermittent problem with the DSC module?

That sucks big! I mean, you could just be driving along and then all of a sudden feel like you just got rear ended by an 18-wheeler!?

Hope everything works out in your favor. Keep us posted.
