Anthracite Maple trim swap done!
SANguru and I completed my switch from dark poplar to anthracite maple. I had done the dash and doors and today was the day to tackle the center console. All I can say is that removing the center console is as big a pain as everyone said it is. Two people definitely help to maneuver the thing out. It took much longer that we had expected due to a couple of unexpected issues. The good thing was that we were able to clean up some gunk from a drink that had spilled some time ago.
Here is what it looks like with the center console removed. Here is what it looked like before with the dark poplar console. (I had done the dash already.) Here is is all done. Here is a picture of the dark poplar side by side with the anthracite maple. It was a pain but I am very happy with the results and it's always satisfying to complete a DIY mod.

I guess having the doors open and the dome lights on for so long, my battery died. When we had everything together and the X wouldn't start, I thought that we had mucked something up badly. Seeing the dome light on but very weak confirmed it was just the battery. I called AAA to come give me a jumpstart. When the guy arrived, I told him what we were up to and showed him the old console wood compared to the new. He said "it looks the same to me". I laughed and said "that's what my fianceé said". It's only us nuts here who can appreciate the little things. As for the meet next weekend. I would love to come, really I would, but I just couldn't justify it given the hyperspeed of wedding planning now that we are only about 6 weeks away from The Big Day. Next weekend in scheduled for tuxedo fittings and the continuation of getting my house ready for her to move in. I will definitely be there in spirit. Send me your number and I'll give you guys a call so I can join in by conference call.

haha.. I think Sunshine and I both lost weight! nothing like working in a cool 90 degree day in the garage cussing like sailors when things go awry. Glad it all worked out.. and that you got our key out
Some interesting notes from the trip: The S4 was freakin filthy from the storm this morning - the dirt runoff in PS is outta control haha.. The S4 turned pretty brown! geniouses on the 15 decided to close 2 lanes down for road construction so took us a good 7 hours to get home.. thank God for a whole hella lot of horsepower! The S4 avg'd a poor 17.5 mpg through out the whole trip back at an avg of 84.6mph... going up the grapevine whenever we gun it.. it got 3.9 mpg according to the datalogger.. horrible.. We filled up 6 times for the whole trip of about 1400 miles Good news is we got home in time for me to finish up the on the bike.. Also... my full leathers came in the mail.. damn that thing is heavy... Quote:
