Problems with the folding side mirrors??

Hello,

I just got my brand new used X5 a few months ago. I notice when I press the little botton to fold the mirrors from the inside., the mirros would fold in and would automaticly fold back in one cycle. Am I doing something wrong? I would think you press the botton once to fold the mirros in and another time to fold the mirrors back out. I can fold the mirros manually from the outside without any problems.

I called the previous owner he said he did not even know he had this function and did not use it.

Any ideas what is going on??

thanks

Wow, how about trying to do a search? I believe this issue has been discussed 3 times this week alone.

Thanks to the forum problem fixed. A few tips to add.

Thanks to the forum I fixed the problem. But I have two tips to add.

My problem was the micro switch the exact problem shown in the link.

1. I learn that if only one of the switch is not working both mirrors would fold in and just fold out again (someone mention this already). In my case it was the passenger side. I was able to determined which switch was defective with out taking part both mirrors. With the mirror out. I was able to manually rock the mirror a little forward and backward and able to hear the click from the micro switch. In my case I could hear the switch from the driver side but not the passenger side. (note: you may have to rock the mirror a little forward beyond the normal position for use, it is o.k. to do that).

2. On the micro switch there is two position to put the steel. If you look at the micro switch very carefully you can see that the steel clip can be place on either end of switch. Putting the steel clip in one of the position will not work! The picture shown on the link in this thread is correct. If you put the steel clip on the other position, the end of the steel clip will hit the switch while the picture shows the middle of the steel clip hitting the switch.
