Help X5 stopped running.

i was dropping off my grandfather at a relatives house when my x5 shut down turned off. i tried to start it but got a weird buzzing sound under the hood. after 3 tries it started again and i was able to get the car to the mechanic. there are times when i start it and get no noise and other times i do. it's a pretty loud vibration buzzing sound under the hood and i have no clue what is going on . please help.

How is your battery? When I battery gets low, the started will make a buzzing noise and not start.

wallyx5,

Sorry, this is off topic, but I noticed that your signature says you have 284,000(!) miles on your X5. That's truly impressive. Maybe we should start a new thread for high-mileage cars and their secrets, but could you quickly share with us some of yours? What kind of maintenance have you done? By the book, or more frequent? And is it on the original transmission? If so, have you ever replaced the fluid? Thanks, and congratulations!
