It could be one of the ball joints. They can make the sound you describe. Mine was doing the exact same thing. Over even the slightest bump. I isolated it to the driver's side. Then I had a friend rock the vehicle by lifting on the driver's side wheel well. I listened under the car and it was coming from the steering knuckle.
Since your noise is in the rear suspension, you'll have to investigate and see if you can pinpoint the problem. I raised the X5, took the wheel off, then removed the inside bolt on the lower control arm. This allowed me to move the lower control arm with my hands. When I moved the arm, I was able to reproduce the noise so I knew I had the right one. I replaced the arm myself after buying a set of pickle forks from Sears for separating the ball joint from the steering knuckle. Easy DIY. Try this and you'll be able to find the noise and save yourself some cash. Look for the noise coming from the bushings as well. Good luck! |

2003 BMW X5 3.0i I had the same problem with squeaking. I talked with a couple of servcies reps and found the problem to be bushings and suspension connector points cause the squeaks. Get some penetrating oil (Any auto parts store will have) Remove the tires on the rear. Spray the peneatring oil on all connector points. Also spary the base of the spring that supports the suspension. Do not use WD40 this will cause your sqeaking to get worse. $3.00 solution DIY

Have you posted anywhere your repair procedure for the window regulators? I did a search and couldn't find it -- but I know I've seen it before. TIA |
