Blower motor woes

My a/c blower motor started making squeaking noises a few months ago and then stopped working altogether. I swapped out the FSR, but it still wouldn't run. My indy played with it and got it to run with either the old or the new FSR, so it obviously was not that. It's been back to him twice now for the blower motor. It works for a few days and then squeaks and dies again. This morning I was bringing it back to him when the blower motor (which had been dead) squeaked and started running again. He says it's a day-long job to replace and doesn't want to do it unless he's sure the motor is the problem. I certainly don't want to pay a day's worth of labor if the motor is not the problem, but I can't think it would be anything else.

Any ideas of what else it could be? The controls seem to be fine and the squeaky noise certainly points to a bad blower, but I'm open to ideas.

My blower motor has been "humming" for almost a year now. It's especially noticable when the radio is off. I finally decided to address the persistent hum, and asked the dealer how much it would cost. I got a similar reply as you did: it's a big job because they have to take the entire front panel off, so labor cost would be substantial. Dealer said that keeping the radio on is a cheaper solution to the blower noise. LOL. I actually appreciated their brutal honesty, since we're talking $1K with the labor. As long as the A/C itself is working OK, I've decided to live with the low-level humming.

Yeah, I could live with the squeaking. But when it doesn't work at all, it's no fun driving in the summer or winter.
