Strange Stereo Setup: Can't figure out

Hi Guys,

I have an Australian 2005 3.0d e53. I am trying to figure out how the wiring works, so that I can connect an aftermarket set of splits in the front doors, and use an aftermarket amp for each of the 4 doors.

What I have:
6 speakers only: (I have no tweeters in the doors)
- 2 mid range speakers in the dash
- 2 mid-bass in front doors
- 2 mid-bass in rear doors.

Display = I have the 16:9 display, with a cassette drive behind it.
TV Tuner = in electronics tray in trunk, I have TV tuner PN 65.12_6 972 662
PDC = in electronics tray, PN 66.21_6 958 515 9
Trailer towing module = in electronics tray
TV Tuner (Hybrid) = in electronics tray, PN 6 966 696

CD Changer in rear left hand compartment (opposite side to fusebox), BMW OEM.

Bluetooth module, under CD CHanger.

Amplifier. Can't find it. It is not under CD Changer (the bluetooth module is under there, but nothing else). The amp is not in electronics tray. The ONLY parts in the electronics tray are Radio Module, TV Hybrid, PDC, and Towing module.

I am wondering:
- where is the crossover that splits the signal between the front door midbass, and the front dash midrange speaker?
- where can I find a line level full range signal that I can tap into? Is sound being dealt with in my radio module(ie tone etc), and amplified inside the radio module, with wires coming out to the speakers?

PS: Sorry for yet another thread on this topic, but my configuration seems really strange. I honestly do only have 6 speakers, and cannot find an amp that is separate to the radio + TV.
P.P.S: I'm not too worried about hooking up an subwoofer yet...

Sounds like you could benifit from the online wiring schematics at the page top, but I think it is only for premeir members...

I have spent a long time looking at the circuit diagrams. I can't find
- part locations (ie: is there a crossover under the dash doing signal split between mid and mid-bass?
- All the diagrams appear to have a radio feeding signals to a separate amp; yet my amp (if I have one) isn't a separate box under the CD stacker, nor is it in the electronics tray near the battery.
???

Will that fix all the dead links in the online circuit diagrams?

Hmmm. Not sure... May still be some problems from the website change. Might be a question for the Admins

But I know you need to have java, flash and macromedia shockwave up to date for that to work properly.

Most of the diagrams work correctly. I installed the adobe svg viewer, and am using IE. It's just about 5% of the docs don't open the svg in the righthand frame; they just open the xoutpost home page. (ie: seems to be a dangling link to a missing svg?)..

Yeah, that is probably still being worked out by the admins with the site change/overhaul. The crossovers you are talking about should be built in to whatever component in your setup is the output to the speakers, and for a place to tap into for a future amp install, you could use the install instructions and videos from the BSW site for a guide as they give you step by step.

Thanks for your help so far mate.

The mid-bass speakers in the doors are 4ohm and don't appear to have an inductor/filter, so I think there's either a crossover somewhere, or the amp is wired to each driver separately. The circuit diagrams on this site look like it is traditional for each driver to be wired separately to a separate amp, but I don't appear to have a separate amp anywhere!

I think I will just pull the doors+seats+trim+carpet on the weekend, and follow the wires by hand. My configuration is quite different to the norm, so the BSW instructions etc., aren't helping me at the moment

I'd even consider a BSW kit, but given they wire up to an amp that I don't have, I don't have confidence in their kit either... (plus I have no tweeters at all, so I can't "replace" the tweeter as there's no wires going there!)..

Ahh, progress is sweet. OK. Turns out the online x5 wiring diagrams off this site won't display the component location pictures (just display an x) which is why I couldn't figure out where different parts were etc.

I found two other sites:

This one, I can see part location pictures, but not the svg circuit diagrams,

Ach well, between the two of them, I'm starting to figure this stuff out !

I dunno what's going on with the circuit diagrams off this site, but even after installing the most recent version of the adobe svg plugin, I still get dangling links. Ach well.
I'll post a full writeup when I'm finished....
