Took a short road trip today....

Took the family to the Monterey Bay Aquarium today. 2hr drive down 101, over 156, and then down HWY 1. The X5 was such a fun vehicle to take for this trip. Fit everyone and everything with room to spare and downshifting to pass was very enjoyable. Love that V8 growl. Subtle until you get on it. Exactly the type of thing I bought this vehicle for. I felt bad for all the suckers in minivans.

Lol, yeah, thats why I had to pick one up myself. I will never drive a minivan!

Lucky you your drive was only 2hrs. Mine is 6 hours to Monterey, but well worth it!

I'm jealous. You had more opportunities for passing, curves, and onramps. Maybe its time for a road trip to Disneyland

Highway 1 is such a fun road to go on. My family took a trip to California on my April break and we went down Highway 1, after 17 mile drive, to see Hearst Castle. Rented a Chrysler 300C with 5 people and luggage, still one of my best drives (or rides since I can't drive yet) of my life!

Agreed, the X5 is the best cruising vessel ever made!

I just finished my 4th trip since buying my '02 3.0i in January. The first trip was a -25F trip to Eveleth Minnesota for a wedding and hockey game at the Hockey Hall of Fame.

The latest, a trip to and from Disney World. Plenty of room, smooth ride decent mileage and the power to pass anything without worries (even with the lowly 3.0)

Can't wait for later in the summer when we take the beast through the Great Smokies!

Would love to hit HWY 1 again some time! Last time was in a friend's Z4, just me and the wife up the coast and through wine country. Is there a place to rent an X5 out there? He he he.

Well, most of my drive consisted of the I-5 and thats not very interesting. The last 1.5 hrs was much better. Now if I had done the 101 or 1 most of the way, it prob would have been more fun, but I had time constraints so had to take the fastest route.

And yes, the X5 is a great family road trip car. It has so much power and drives like a dream for such a big car that we LOVE taking roadtrips. We used to do it in the 740i but once you load up all your stuff, it got pretty cramped. Looking forward to our next run to Pismo beach this summer!
