Opinion on 2003 X5 3.0

Hey Guys,
I am new to the forum and BMW's in general. I'm in the market for a used vehicle, I have come out of back to back Jeep leases, and the price of leasing has gone through the roof, and I can't afford to by new right now. A friend recommended the x5 to me, they have an 01 with 112,000 miles and have had no major issues. I started looking into them and came across an 2003 3.0 with 64,000 miles. I can probably get it for around $15,000. It has had the valve cover gaskets replaced recently, and I was wondering if I should be worried about any other common major issues with these that may be out there. I'm really hoping to land something reliable, and hopefully keep repair costs down. My wife is out of work and we have a new baby. Is this the car for me, or am I better sticking with a newer, lower mileage Jeep for about the same money? I've read about the extended warranties, and I don't think that is something I want to shell out for. All advice is much appreciated
Thanks
Joe
