Do you think my mehcanic noticed this?

My warranty is over tomorrow and they have had my car for a week.

I told them the oil separator needed to be fixed and the car was leaking oil. Now I think I should have told him to replace the valve cover instead, but I'm hoping he noticed that himself.

Under the valve cover there is oil (u can see its wet) and the car smokes and smells like burning rubber. So that sounds like a cover problem not an oil separator problem...

If he was going to change the oil separator would he notice the leaking oil under the valve cover and replace that too?

This is not a BMW stealership. This is Carmax

Carmax...? all bets are off. So many cars I've had to repair after they "fixed" it... they don't know too much about the BMW systems and often cause more harm than good. (only speaking for the cases I see in the area down here, they might have snagged a good tech up there)

I would call them and have them look at that too, ideally you want it all changed, or as much as possible since you are at the end of your warranty.

I thought Carmax was a service (now with annoying commercials!), not a dealership. They do BMW warranty work? Weird.

Carmax has its own extended warranty for the car their sale which is actually pretty good as far as what is covered but their mechanics suck. They must not pay them much as there is a big turnover and so when a mechanic starts getting some experience he leaves.

I'm pretty sure when you bring your cAr to carmax they bring it to the dealer. I could be wrong though.
