Coding and Programming

Ok folks, I'd like to see if I can do some coding and programming of the X. And to do that I'm looking at taking a subscription out on the BMW Tech Info website, BMW TIS EPA.

Now. I do not live in the USA or Canada. But I've many friends in the USA whose home address I could use to register. What would you think - is it do-able ? Or will I end up in jail or something ?!

I also need either an ICOM or a PTT tool. Going for a PTT tool I found online for €175. The ICOM costs €€€€€€€€€€€€.

Hi Pat,

If you're able to get this sorted it might just show me the way to answer to my problems too.

I need to code the car ('04 E53) to English Language (its Italian at the moment), then I want to code key 1 to memory 1, 2 to 2 etc. enable the auto-lock (anti-carjack), and a few other things I cant remember right now. Then when I sell the car I need to get it back to Italian. If I spend a few quid now I can save money later on if it works how I hope.

Does this sound like the kind of stuff you're hoping to be able to do with a laptop/cable and the right software (carsoft?).

Cheers,

Kev

In any event I'll have to buy the PTT tool or similar as I've got to connect the laptop to the car with something.

It's my understanding that once registered with the BMW Tech site that all the software needed resides on BMW's computers in Germany. The car communicates back and forth with those servers through the website and that's how it works. No software purchase required. A one day subscription costs $30 or $250 for a month. I reckon a few days subscription is all I need. I can re-subscribe any time I want.

Someone shout if they know my understanding is wrong but that what I think.
