I've heard from several people that this is due to poor factory trunk compartment installation with some of the X5's...some even have their rear hatch mis-aligned.

I set out to find a thick felt pad that i could cut and cover both sides of the latch (upper)...i ended up using the small felt-pad dots. I cleaned the latch with rubbing alcohol and stuck 2 pads on each side. A little extra effort may be required when closing the hatch but it did the trick...been two weeks now and i haven't heard a sound

If anyone wants, i can take some pics but it won't be till this weekend as the truck is garaged during the week.
yes... please share some pics. the noise is driving me insane !

Oh Please

I don't need to read this about our X5s.

Owned an Infiniti FX45 that had a rear gate creak or pop noise. Anything that caused body flex would trigger it.

I must have OCD because it drove me to sell the POS.

Seldom open the rear hatch on the X5...maybe that helps.

From now on I will never open the rear gate. lol

um, the x5 hatch problem is fixable.

for the other obvious problem, a good psychologist will be able to help...

As i mentioned, i simply cleaned the surface with rubbing alcohol for best adhesion...then i put 2 pads on each side. Haven't heard a sound since!

I had the rubber bump stop, RealOEM.com BMW E53 X5 3.0i TRUNK LID/REAR WINDOW, (part no. 38) next to the latch missing. The dealer replaced it and no more noise.... thank God!!!.... Got it done under warranty...
