I have had the same issue on my car over the years - it is very random when it does it and for how long.
No idea what causes it - but doesn't seem to be aproblem.

not sure really, (a guess) is it the service indicator? letting you know recommended service is getting sooner (the green to yellow to red indicators @ startup)

the model might help someone with more knowledge, (ex. E53 or E70)

Smile

Thanks, it is getting close for a service so that could well be it. There was no reference to it in the manual and was I finding it a bit annoying, not knowing why it kept beeping at me

Weasel will become famous soon enough
What kind of beeping? Like when the alarm is set/unset or like when you open the door with the key still in the ignition?

Is is a petrol or deisel X5?

It might be the "Memo" option. Its set through the monitor/On-board computer. From memory you can set it to remind you of a number of things. Mine was set to beep every hour on the hour until i found out what it was and turned it off.
