2005 x5 4.4i - reliabilty
Does anyone know how reliable these are? I am looking into a 2005 model w/ZPP & ZSP. Are they reliable? Also, can anyone confirm the following: If it has ZPP ==> does it have panaromic moonroof? Is Xenons stock on 4.4 models for 2005? Thank you all!!! |

BMW's are reliable - depending on your definition of reliable. Is it not maintenance free. Things do break. There are issues common to all recent vintage BMW's and X5's, i.e. window regulators, fuel pumps, O2 sensors, etc. However, what commonly breaks can usually be repaired in a day; your BMW will not typically not require long-term repairs such as drivetrain rebuilds. Once you get up to 175-200K miles, you can expect to replace some high dollar items, most notably the automatic transmission.
You're not going to get Camry type reliability out of a Bimmer. But you'll trade off a small piece of that reliability for a car that was designed to provide driving pleasure. This is why my last 9 daily drivers have been Bimmers. Answers to your options question: http://www.xoutpost.com/articles/x5/g...e53-years.html |

Thanks for the quick response. I do understand that over time all cars will require routine maintenance and things do break.
I currently have a 328i and i am happy to say that they are pretty reliable but I just wanted to make sure before I take the plunge on the x5. Thanks again!!! |

Early 2004's got the regular roof. Around April 04 was the production date switch to pano.

My 4.4i has been super reliable so far. (Knock on wood) I got things replaced which didn't really need to be replaced since I was under warranty and my dealer agreed to put new parts in. Its at about 28 k miles and is doing very well.
