Just bought a 05 4.4 x5

Hi all I purchase a used X5 with 37,000 mile in Feb 09 and i love it. So it came with the maintenance plan so i was going to wait to change the oil when service light was red, but the "check level" light came on so i did check it. it was black so i said to myself i will just change it. Mind you it was always serviced at dealer.

So i check all of your helpful postings and Changed oil. well let me tell you what i found. The top plate was covered with oil and a half inch on dirt (so bad had to scrap it) and i was very alarmed. so i took down the plate and i found an old oil cap from engine, so i was think maybe the cap vibrated off an oil spilled out. but no the top of engine was clean, I took my light and looked all over for a leak, well guess what there was a bolt missing in the oil pan, i was happy it was not major but wondering who, what, where, when and how. I guess who care its fixed!!!!

why change the oil yourself if you have a maintenance plan, plus your X could still be under the original warranty?

I would of had to wait 2000 more mile to dealer change and they would of ignored the oil build up on the bottom of car, cause they ignored it when they did inspection before i purchased it
