Weasel will become famous soon enough
I wouldn't use a regular RTV, but a small amount of Hylomar 3400 (thin smear with just enough buildup in the corners of the repair to not ooze out everywhere) would probably do the trick.

I found this thread saying they use the shit for cylinder head sealing on lotus engines, gotta hold up pretty well then. And I have never had a bad experience with hylomar and we use it often at the dealer. I even used it to reseal my headlights ater modding them and have had absolutely no problems.

Since I don't want to be one of those guys who screams for help and then drops off the face of the Earth, I thought I'd update this....

I used the JB Weld, let it cure for about two days, and then used a combination of a dremel tool and 600 grit sandpaper to smooth out the important inner surfaces and the face of the carrier. Then I used a small amount of gasket material (don't remember the name--it was designed for water pump applications) to be completely sure that there were no leaks.

3 weeks later, it's still working like a champ.....thanks for all the tips guys....you saved my buddy a lot of money, and my conscience and reputation in the neighborhood is still intact. :-)
