Aux power

Is the passenger side footwall plug always hot? Meaning even with ignition off? I want to source a power for my Garmin and was thinking about it.

My apologies again as I could not think up the correct keyword search string.

Short answer is Yes, considering you have a 2001. Long answer is that I believe BMW made some changes during the 2005 production run and the outlets in the passenger compartment go off after a certain period of time. It was around that same time they introduced a new BMW charger that had alligator clips and not just the cigarette outlet socket.

There is though another way to do it that works around this problem.
