Angry No reverse!!!! No message and a big surprise

My precious one surprised me with her new present - NO REVERSE with no previous message or any prior symptom that it was going bad.

Therefore how much should I be looking for????? parts and labor

Amcink - What year, model and mileage is your X5?

I had the same problem with my 2001 4.4 X5 with 71K miles about six weeks ago. The original estimate I received from the dealer was $450 to diagnose the problem, and $8600 to have the transmission replaced. I spent several hour documenting the service history on the car, and the service director went to BMW NA to see if they would assist. BMW covered everything but labor, so I was only out of pocket $2050.

Good luck

Hello John D
My is 2001 4.4 80300 miles I purchased at 74K from a used car dealer - toyota of Hayward and I do not think I have any bases to document a maintenance since the only things I've done is its regular oil change at 5K and (1) window regulator and the (2) front cv boots.
Therefore I have not taking it to any dealer for service and I do not know if I have any rights to pursue any suit or service by BMW NA. I you believe i have some kind of base to pursuit some kind of settlement please let me know
Thank you in advance for your input

I doubt you have any kind of case against BMW. I was fortunate enough to have the service history since 19K. Before BMW had a chance to look at it, I had an indy give me a price, it was 3600. Good luck...

I just got a quote of 6K (1K labor 4.4K rebuilt transmissiona rest of miscellaneous)

I still owe 14K on the damn thing a I think the KBB is 12K at 80K miles (2001 4.4). I'm already upside down + 6K for repairs - I'll be big time upside down - I'm so pissed with this piece of S****

I'm in the limbo and will check other shops to see what they say

If you haven't had any previous goodwill repairs by BMW NA I think it would be worth a shot to try to contact them. Depending on when you bought the car and how frequently the previous owners had it serviced they should show you some sympathy. I bought mine in February from an individual, never set foot in the dealer, and called BMW a month later about dead pixels in my instrument cluster. I thought for sure they would deny me since I was by then the third-owner, it wasn't CPO, and I didn't have any kind of relationship with my dealer. But 15 minutes later I got a call telling me to bring it up to Hendrick the next Monday and they'd take care of everything except labor.

Now I'm kinda bummed I used my one goodwill repair towards the cluster. I've started an "X5 Account" at the bank that I dip into whenever the unexpected happens or maintenance comes due. Hopefully by the time mine fails I'll have enough in there to replace it.
