Test drove 2006 4.8is...

and have to say I was not as impressed as I thought I would be. My 2001 4.4 sport held up pretty well in comparison. 4.8 seemed more sluggish than mine off the line, and the transmission felt like it was bogging when I was rolling with my foot off the gas. The 4.8 is beautiful (Imola Red with beige seats and black interior). I also have to say my sport seats seemed to fit better than the comfort seats in the 4.8. The 4.8 really stood out at highway speeds...very fast and infinite throttle response. The 4.8 has 41k miles on the speedo and the lot is asking $36900 (he gave 29600 at auction). I'm not sure if I'll make him an offer, I just wasn't that blown away.

Any thoughts from the masses?
Mac

There is roughly only a 30HP/ft-lbf increase between the 4.4 and the 4.8is, so it wouldn't surprise me that test driving you would feel similar results.

N62B44 333HP@6100 332ft-lbf@3600
N62B48 367HP@6300 361ft-lbf@3400

I've only driven the 3.0 and the 4.8is so I can't compare too much. But I added the Dinan Stage 3 software and the 4.8is is off the line a lot quicker than it was with the stock software, and it transforms the car into something completely different.

Oops, you have a 2001. That's the M62TUB44 engine: So, 282hp@5400 and 325lb-ft@3600.

Okay, now I am surprised you didn't feel a difference.

Where are you getting the 367HP for the 06 4.8is? Should be 355HP...

My bad. I was looking at the E70 4.8is engine! I need to learn to read! It's been a long week already.....

Anyways, I was pulling numbers for Wikipedia. But they say the E53 4.8is is at 360HP.

That's a common feeling going from the 00-03 4.4/4.6 to 04-08 4.4/4.8. It's valvetronic and the trans that make the 04+ V8's feel sluggish off the line.

As great as the valvetronic is, it makes it a bit more sluggish off the line.
