Stop Engine Low Oil Pressure

I just got a oil change two days ago. As i left the shop i got "Stop Engine Low Oil Pressure" on the obm. I read a post somewhere that it might be a faulty oil pressure sensor and it might cost $700. I am wondering if i just leave it like that and do my regular oil changes , would that be harmful or just deal with the annoying message alarm.

Thanks for your response.

With something as crutial as oil pressure, I would at least have the diagnosis done and an oil pressure test to ensure it is the sensor that is at fault... because if the sensor is working and the pressure is low, driving it will cost you an engine!

I hope there are no abnormal engine noises happening...

I took it back to the shop and the oil level is normal. I think its a faulty sensor. While driving the error message dont go on. It only appears at a full stop. I still wonder if the oil level is fine. Can i still drive it like that? Because i dont have 700 dollar to give the stealers to fix a sensor.

I still think it may not be a sensor... there is a BIG difference between oil level and oil pressure! And the fack that the light only comes on at idle means it is only while the engine is at a low RPM. I would do yourself a favor and just pay the dealer for diagnosis as they can do an oil pressure test and can check all valving etc. that can affect pressure.

Just keep in mind that if it is indeed an oil pressure problem you can cost yourself an engine if you don't take care of it now! Do not skimp on a system as crutial as oil delivery!

Oil pumps work off the motor RPM, so the more RPM you turn, the more pressure you get. If you are not getting enough at idle, but there are 8 quarts in the crankcase, something may be up that is not the sensor. Did they put the right oil in it or what?

Weasel is right though, better safe than sorry on oil pressure. The second your bearings get hot because you are not flowing enough down low, its bye bye motor.

There's always another test you could try...keep driving around and see if you need a new engine soon or not.

^Hey come on I was trying to be civil. But, you are right - if the motor seizes, you will have an answer.
