What should I do? Trade my 01 4.4i for a 05 4.8is?

Hi all. Now I really do need all of you to give me some advice or opinion on this. Currently I am driving my 01 4.4i, it performs really good without any problem, I spent lot of money on it to keep it in good condition including replacing the alternator, radiator, ABS module, retrofit to OEM HID headlight, A/C eveporator and other minor stuffs. I am actually very happy with it right now. But I saw a 05 4.8is in the market, it really looks good and it equipes new engine, new transmission and xDrive, more power and more torque.

My question is should I go ahead to trade my current one for the 4.8is or just keep the current one until it cannot run any more? Thanks for any input/opinion.

Have you driven the 4.8i? Take it for a drive first and see what you think; if it hits all the right notes then go for it; if you feel it is just like your old 4.4i, then stick with that. Any used car can be a liability and often the devil you know is the one to have.

how many miles on the 01?

I think you are better off with a new "is" personally...

depends on condition of 4.8, they can have a number of issues as-well. TRY IT FIRST.

Not sure how we're supposed to really answer that. Only you know your reasons for upgrading, financial situation, etc. If you're completely happy with the 4.4, then why not hang on to it? Sounds like you already own a very well sorted car. If you just want something newer and nicer and don't care about the expense, then go for it.

The 4.8is is very nice too, and a special vehicle, but the tangible differences between it and what you already have are, frankly, incremental IMHO.

Good Luck! I hate decisions like this..............I always say that I am going to keep my car and run it into the ground but then in a few years or a few repairs I move on. I got my 2005 X5 in December and it is CPO until 8-30-2011 so I will definately keep it til then, but so far I had to get a new alarm system put in, and now I am driving my car with the power seat adjustments not working and they cannot fix it til Tuesday so right now I am not a happy X5 owner. Luckily all repairs are free but calling the dealer is such a pain because they are always so busy. Anyway, I drove a new X5 Diesel for a loaner and it was cool, but I think the older X5 feels more solid and more "tankish", if you have a great old one, I would keep it. There will always be a newer out there you will like for later on.
