Loved my X but missed my 2001 Tundra...to quote a famous governor, I'll be back!

It has the 5.7 liter engine and I got about 19 mpg on the only road trip I've taken so far. Only has 900 miles on it, mileage should get better as the engine breaks in. Awesome truck though, 382 horses and over 400 foot lbs of torque. Breaks are huge and acceleration is scary for a truck this big.
I'll be reading the board often as I will get another X (newer) at some point. Wish I was a premier member as I have some parts to get rid of, guess I'll go the ebay route.

Very nice truck.

I consider the Land Cruiser/LX470 to be, by far, the best 4WD vehicle made. The GX470 is nice too. Had I not gotten such a great deal on my 2005 X5, 4.4, I would have gone the Toyota route.

Those land cruisers and LX470s are beasts in off roading. Those SUVs rarely got stuck in mud/snow etc

I had a 2005 LX470 with Mark Levinson Audio, the truck had the best ride quality on any SUV or even Sedan, it just lacked power but torque was similar to my 4.4i.....

Yes, having owned several BMW cars, I was not as worried about maintenance when it came to getting my 2005 4.4 even though it does have 90k miles. I had it checked by BMW, and it had all of its records plus the 100k extended warranty, PLUS my good friend is a Master BMW mechanic with his own shop (and knew the BMW dealer mechanic who had worked on mine before I bought it).

HOWEVER

I still go into this ownership a bit tentatively. BMW X5's are less reliable than Land Cruisers, Lexus LX470's, and Lexus GX470's. I won't hesitate to change my mind if a great deal comes around AND the X5 gives me more trouble than I think it is worth.

All of that being said, what kinds of things should I pay attention to on a 2005 X5, 4.4?
