@ sprocket1200... I sure did see my MPG drop. also I got them from Mavis and the guy told me they were all-season tires.. I will definatley be going back there tommorrow, and raising hell.

major reasons for changes in MPG (rolling resistance)

old tire vs. new tire - tread depth plays a large role in rolling resistance. larger the blocks, the more they deform, causing energy absorption and loss of efficiency.

@ sprocket1200- as both the Grabber UHP and Diamaris are SUMMER tires, it's difficult to say that compound is the reason for the change, unless you know the compound performance of both. last I remember, the OE 19" sport package tires for the X5 are summer tires.

Between a Latitude Tour HP / Diamaris and Grabber UHP, I assume that the UHP is marginally better in snow with a M+S rated tread design. However neither are recommended in winter months.

I went back to Mavis yesterday. I barked at the guy that I wasnt happy with the fact they lied and said the generals where all-season tires. I called GENERAL myself and the rep told me that Grabber UHP's should never be used in snow/cold weather, and that they do not make a tire for the X5 that is "all-season". Mavis agreed to exchange my Grabbers for Mich Tour HP's for $334 more. Which is a great deal!

that's a great deal! good job with the tire upgrade!

just remember that it's still on the performance side, so you will be giving up a bit of snow performance. the tour HP's don't have too deep of a tread, so you should gain in MPG performance, but snow performance may be a bit less then a latitude tour non-HP or other true All/Season tires.

Got the new Lat HP's on today..and man..I never knew how rough the Generals' road until I put the lats on...When people complained about noise I didn't understand until the noise was gone. Its like a new X5.... What a difference....I would never buy Gen Grabbers again...

nice!

just remember though you are comparing a UHP Summer tire to a Performance A/S. The less agressive the tire, the softer, quieter, etc... they typically are.
