Muffler, Resonator - same thing?
Are muffler and resonator names for the same thing?

yes and no
exhaust gas exits out of the cylinder head, through the exhaust manifolds, through the catalytic converter, then both pipes converge into the resonator (which is essentially an upstream muffler) then exit out resonator into muffler and out exhaust tips EDIT: resonators tend to be longer in length than mufflers |

These are names for more or less the same thing, but normally a resonator is fitted in the middle of the exhaust system not only to reduce noise but also to eliminate vibrations to the interior of the car, whilst a muffler is normally fitted in the rear .....
