I was going to trade in my '00 X5 for an '04 525 and they offered me a laughable $17k for it. : I just can't believe they'd offer that low. It isn't in excellent condition, but it certainly is in Good condition, and has premium sound and sports package. Of course, they tried to blame it on a wholeseller, when I know that KBB is 21k and change on it. Has anyone else gotten such a laughable offer? I did end up getting the 525, but not with the X5.

Long time no post, Heather. I am not the least bit surprised with their offer. That is to be expected, especially now that they can play the whole "demand for SUV's is dead because of gas prices". I bet they tried to get you to pay retail on the 525 while offering you below wholesale on your trade. Not every dealer is like this but I'm afraid that the majority are out to get you. It is true that the used car market right now is pretty soft but none the less, they'll still do what they can to burn you.
Congrats on the new 5er.

looking at my post I've got to use spellcheck more often! Yeah, I've been busy lately, not much time for play time. Yes, they did try to do the "well, we'll give you more on your trade if you pay retail for the 525" but I wasn't biting. I knew that they wouldn't give it to wholesale for under KBB...even if the SUV market is supposedly soft, which I haven't experienced that much around here. I see SUVs going for less in the summer, but not this close to winter when everyone is going up to the mountains for skiing. I love my X5, but was amazed with the handling on the 525. I drove the 530 too, and just couldn't see paying that much more for the V8, when I have two V8 cars right now. (I also just bought an Infiniti G35....hubby's midlife crisis car) It certainly is a nice ride, and I love the thigh support. The Idrive is taking a little getting used to, but at least it isn't like the 7 series' Idrive. I hear that one takes patience as well.
We did end up getting the coolant overflow fixed rather cheaply...I think it was under $100. Hubby has connections everywhere, and found someone who would do it for us. Quick and painless, I might add. |

Oh, and another goof...it is an '05 525. I guess the negotiations have turned my brain to mush :P

H: Typcial "money changer" action by the Stlrs, imo...but, that 525 is a fine car and agree, the V8 is big bucks premium.
