Brake Lining vs. Yellow Warning Light

Help! My 'brake lining' warning light just came on. Is there a difference between this and the yellow warning light? In the E46, the yellow light comes on when the pads are low. Does the X5 have a warning light for both the pads and rotors? Is there a way to tell which (front or rear) one is tripping the light. Thanks in advance!

its the same type of warning.. that your pads are too thin and the sensor nub has worn off and is warning you you have less then 3mm of pad material left.

Red face front or rear when light comes on

Thanks
So when the brake wear light comes on, you have to look at the master cylinder ?
I did not notice 2 resivors for front vs rear. Am i missing something?

In the X5, if you have premium package, it should say something like 'Check Brake Linings' on the display in the instrument cluster.
