Question Battery not covered under warranty...

So I get into the X this morning to take her to the dealer for some warranty work and the battery is drop dead. I called Roadside Assistance, and an hour later I was off and running. I get a call an hour later, and the dealer tells me that the battery needs to be replaced and is not covered by the warranty due to my low mileage. Don't laugh, it's a MY 2002 and has 16,500 miles. The car turns 4 in 2 weeks. The dealer goes on to tell me that the battery is $135 + 1 hour labor for a total bill of $260. WTF!!!

I immediately called BMWNA to lodge a complaint, and to try and get them to pay for it. I'm still waiting for their call.

Have you ever heard of such a thing??

That's BS. You can get the same battery from Battery's Plus for $80 and it takes about 15 minutes to change.

I just called them, thank you BTW. It's $94.88 and has an 18month replacement warranty, and a 65 month pro-rated warranty. I think I'll swing by and pick one up.

Dang! It's a conspiracy against us WestFesters. First me, you then Kewl. Who is going to be next???

I don't get how your battery is not covered under warranty because your mileage is too low. What gives? I guess I am very lucky that my dealer replaced my battery under warranty. It didn't cost me a dime and they never gave me a hard time about it.

UPDATE: I just got back from Batteries Plus. The battery brand name is "Werker". It is made my Douglas here in the USA. They make the OEM X% battery so they told me. It is white, and is an exact match for the OEM. Many thanks to SuperJeff for the recommendation The cost was like $96.00 out the door, and I'll go to the dealer and install it myself tomorrow am.
