I would like to add running boards on my 4.8is, have a question->
I have a 2005 4.8is. I would like to add factory running boards. Can someone please confirm whether or not I have to change my flares as well? I've been quoted $600 for the running board kit but the 4 flares are $800!! Yikes..

WOW!! I like the stainless (ones with the holes in them) too...But for that $$...No thanks!
I'd like the answer too! |

I've also seen the replica ones that bolt directly onto the factory plastic running boards. Does anyone know if these actually work? I want running boards to help my 3 year old get in and out. His foot slipped right off the plastic running board the other day.

I had the replica bolt on on my 2001 X5. Once they are there you won't want to take them off because you put a lot of holes into the plastic on the car. They were sturdy and usable tho. I liked how the ones I had looked however; but disappointed by quality; the rubber dots on them started to come out from continued usage (i.e. a passenger getting in and out of the car. That sucked and since they are made in another country forget getting those pieces for replacement. I tried and couldn't.
This time around I've decided I want the OEM running boards. Just faint at the price.

Here is a thread about this. Sorry it doesn't just say, "yes you need flares."
