Question HID Lamp installation problem......

Hi guys,

Just got my first HID Kit last night, so excited, and spent 2 hours to put them on.

The reason why I spent so long is, my car is 01 X5 3.0i, which comes with H7 bulb originally, and the kit I bought also comes with H7 bulb, BUT just a BARE bulb. , no support socket or something, like the original plastic clip which can hold the bulb tight onto the assembly. Here's the link to the Ebay item:

HID XENON KIT LIGHT H1 H3 H7 H11 9005 BMW X5 01 02 03+:eBay Motors (item 180333768627 end time Aug-30-09 18:19:22 PDT)

As you can see in the pic, there's actually a rubber after the bulb, how should I mount the bulb to the assembly without any support? Can anyone give me some help?! Very appreciate it!

Where are these bulbs going to? Your fogs or headlamps? If it for headlights and your car using H7 and this new H7 HID bulbs should lock right in.
If this is for fogs light you may have order the wrong bulbs for it .... Most 01-03 using H3 for fogs.

Hi Tom, thanks for chiming in.

It's for the headlamp, low beam, H7.

I don't know what other X5s was like, but mine is the H7 halogen bulb inserting into a socket, and then the socket locks in the assembly. The new HID bulb doesn't come with a socket which can lock in the assembly. That's my question. I'll post some pics later for your convenience.

Please advice.

This is why you don't buy cheap unreliable HID kits...If you want cheap, but will still work and come with the proper set up you need. Go here. www.hidny.com... Done.

Hey Primetime,

Thanks for the webste. The one I bought on Ebay is exactly the same as the link below:

HIDNY.COM 646-662-5221 HID Xenon Conversion Kit & Auto Lights, Parts from NYC : HID-104S > HID Single Beam 1.5 cm THICK Slim Conversion Kit

You can see in the pic, the bulb is directly linked with the wire, and there's rubber on the wire, too. Now I'm just using the rubber to mount into the hole to hold the bulb on the assembly, but everybody knows that's not a robust idea for the long term.

Thanks for the input though.

Here're the pics I just took from my cellphone. It's the original halogen set. Sorry for the poor quality.

The bulb and the socket is seperatable, and the plastic socket is the one which lock in the assembly. Compared to the pic from HIDny, I can't figure out any way to lock the new HID bulb into the assembly.

Any idea?
