Axxis Ultimates and Zeckhausen centric rotors

I recently installed the Axxis Deluxe pads and the premium centric rotors from Zechausen on my '05 4.4 X5 and it seems to feel a bit soft and doesn't bite very hard. They were changed probably a month ago and they haven't gotten any harder. When I look at the rotor, I see markings from the pads but they do not extend to the edge of the rotor. It looks like the pads are only making contact with the middle of the rotor. Is this normal and has anyone else experienced a huge difference with these pads and rotors after changing over from OEM? The OEM's seem to bite a lot harder and it seems to take a lot of pedal travel to make the brakes bite harder with the Axxis pads and centric rotors.

Did you bed them in properly?

Instructions for bedding in your brakes

I have Axxis XBG pads (between Delux and Ultimates performance-wise) and Centric plain rotors and have been very happy. I did bed them in as described above.

You can always try to bed them again.

Also, the initial bite of the Ultimates may be less than OEM by design. As far as I know, those pads are designed to fade less during extended periods of hard braking. They may give up some initial cold bite to the OEM pads.

Are the Axxis pads directional by any chance?

Not that I recall.
