Is the car leaking on the ground?
I like 15/50 Mobil 1 syn here in hot south FL.
I have 204K miles and it doesn't burn oil, just leaks from dozens of points.......I've fixed most of 'em, valve cover gasket, oil separator nightmare gizmo, and oil filter housing (I'm doing that one this week). |

my 2003 X5 6 cyl 3.0 is using about 1 quart per 1500 miles. It has 108,000 on it. The 1988 735i that I sold to buy this in January didn't use a quart of oil between 5000 miles changes and it had 265,000. I hope it isn't the oil separator. All of my drives are longer than the engine warm up cycle and I live in a moderately cold climate in Western NC. I do not see smoke, except a little puff of light grey at initial ignition sometimes. No leaks at all. Any ideas?

Our 8 yr old '01 3.0, used to burn its fair share, esp on long trips,
(due I felt, to the high cruise rpms of the 5 spd manual trans), but for the past couple years, I find I only have to add a partial quart per year, between an annual oil change. Dunno why the oil consumption has decreased so much, and the ol'X runs pretty well with ~74k miles. GL,mD

I'm experiencing the same thing. About a quart every 7K miles. I've run Total Quartz INEO MC3 5w-30 (LL04) and GC 0w-30 (LL98) with GC 0w-30 being the longest I've run any oil (10K+ mi). I'm going to be switching to Total Quartz Energy 9000 5w-40 (LL01) next weekend. I ran that in my E39 2.8 M52TU motor and never burned a drop in between 7500mi drain intervals.

I have lost absolutely no oil from my X5 3.0i - Whatever oil I put in the exact amount comes out. I even measured it

lol I'm not bragging or anything, I think its because
- I don't push my car ever. - Change oil + filter every 4,000 KM - Blow out all filters every 2 weeks with compressed air 2 quarts of oil seems like a lot just my $0.02 |
