best oil for SF/Tahoe

I think 5W-30 is safer for the colder weather right? What about mixing half 5W-30 and 10W-30 (7.5W-30 ?) I have a bunch of 10W-30 Mobile 1 Synth laying around (used to live in the Desert).

I will be making frequent trips to Tahoe (every 2 weeks) this winter for Ski trips. Generally it doesn't get much below 20-32F there. Here in SF its more like 40-50F.

5W-30 unless your manual recommends something different. Tahoe isn't cold, and 5W-30 is tested down to -40 for pumpability.

Incidentally, there is no difference between 5w-30 and 10w-30 in the desert, assuming you had it for the higher temperatures. They both behave like a 30 weight oil at operating temperature, the 10w-30 just causes more wear at startup.

Cool - is it OK to mix or should i just get more 10W-30? I **think my friend mixes for the safety reason you mentioned.

If you care about the engine, get the right oil and dump the 10w-30. If you don't care about the engine, any oil will do.

5w30 synthetic should be fine for Tahoe. Don't know what your would gain by mixing.

Been running 5w-30 synthetic in Tahoe and the Bay Area for years with no problems.
