Not sure I understand the attraction. I guess I am not a Dinan guy. Perhaps the Dinan fans can correct me on the following logic.
The CAI brings in cooler air. You live in Vancouver (so do I). I am not sure what the benefit is of cooler intake air in our climate. If I understand the Dinan site correctly, the CAI requires the Dinan engine software, plus the high flow throttle body. Seems that that might cost more than the $1300 CDN Autowest quoted, which I presume is for the CAI and trans software only, inc installation. IMO, the original intake and exhaust systems are matched by BMW, so to speak. Assuming the Dinan CAI improves flow in that one component, you likely need to improve the rest of the downstream components to realize any real world benefit. The CAI may sound different, but that is a different issue than a performance gain. Dinan actually says that in addition to the required adders above, the modified exhaust is recommended with the CAI. It likely sounds good, but the price is now climbing. So, let's say you did the CAI/engine software/throttle body. Dinan claims 13 hp gain at 5700 rpm. At the estimated 3000 rpm you are driving around town at it must be worth about 4 hp. Trans software is advertised as improving 0-60 times by 0.01 seconds. Are they serious? Do they understand the concept of error bands or statistical significance? The other benefit is described as a modified control scheme. I see the point of that, and you need to decide if it is worth it for you, particularly if you are pulling a trailer. So, Dinan's site steers you to the S package. In addition to the above items, you get a strut brace (personally, I think it looks cool) plus signature floor mats, and plaques/badges. Listed at $4044 (US?). It might just be me, but if you want more performance, I don't see the point in doing anything less than supercharging. Most other items are cosmetic more than functional. Nothing wrong with that, as long as that is what you want. I haven't dealt with Auto West for years, but I had good experiences there on a previous 3 series. I like Brian Jessel BMW, but they are not listed as a Dinan dealer. It might be worth seeing what they offer, in any case. They have a nice facility, and it likely isn't far to go. Now I suspect the fans of CAI and the rest will tell me how wrong I am. No worries. Do what you choose to do. If the kit you are looking at is worth it to you, that is all that matters, it is your money and your ride.
