A red dot on the cluster next to the odometer is the mileage manipulation dot. is designed to light up if someone changes a cluster out for one with lower mileage... You didn't happen to change the cluster or lighting control module recently did you?

a failure of the k-bus can cause that lamp to illuminate. no communcation with the LCM from the instrument cluster basicly. next time it does that, try using the volume controls on the steering wheel and see if the volume does change. if it does not then, you have a short in the K-bus, most common failure happens in the MRS control unit. but sometimes the ignition switch is to blame.
