Anybody ever install XM in an '02?

Okay, okay, I know that you need to upgrade your CD player to an '03 or later unit to use the Blitzsafe or PIE adapters for XM.

My question is more subtle.

Suppose one were to install the adapter in an '02 without upgrading the CD? What would happen?

I read one thread elsewhere that said you would get XM, but you would not get channel names or artist info. You could set the presets, and change channels sequentially, but could not direct input channels or choose categories.

Anybody know if this is correct? Or is this radio just incapable of supporting anything other than a CD changer (for example, would the Blitzsafe aux-in adapter not work either?)

I might experiment. I have a surplus XMD1000 tuner that I might want to install. But the cost of the adapter is such (>$200 for my DSP radio) that I'm not even going to bother if someone knows FOR SURE that this won't work (like, they personally tried it!).
