My buddy has an 03 4.6 and he has XM loud and clear using an aftermarket module. I'm sure it will work for you as well. Nice ride by the way.

It is aftermarket and it was there when he bought the car. It is nicely tucked away in his ashtray, I'm not exactly sure the brand or model number he has, but it is sleek enough so that he can shut his ash tray lid.

I have XM in my 2004 non - nav stereo. It's and option on the "Mode" menu and is integrated with the stereo (can control channels, see song tags, etc.).

You need these 2 things:

XM Satellite Radio at MyRadioStore - XM Radio Receivers - Refurbished XM Direct XMD1000 Universal Tuner

http://blitzsafe.com/catalog/bmw/bmw.../prod_140.html

Antennae install into the spoiler info:
http://www.xoutpost.com/articles/x5/...tallation.html

There is also this kit at European Autosource:
eas - 714.369.8524 | XM Direct Satellite Radio Package for BMW & Mini

I'd do some web surfing to find best price on the parts, but easy to do. All my equipment is mounted in the rear of the car and not behind the stereo.

I wish they had something to work with nav.

Ouch, I see that. I finally found some info on bimmernav.com but it looks like a spendy proposition to add it to a Nav X5. Sounds like a similar issue trying to get OEM sirius into our 325i with satellite prep. It's almost $500 for parts and then 1 to 2 hours of dealer programming. We are looking at a iPhone cradle instead that has XM support. I wish BMW didn't make it so darn hard.
