Want to hardwire my Sirius Receiver...

Hello,

I searched...But could not find the easy solution...

I want to mount my Sirius receiver IN the ashtray area...It will fit with the dock. I would love to tap the power from the lighter socket right next to it...Is there an easy way to do this without removing the entire console?

Any other thoughts on how to make this happen?

I plan on using the RF modulator to get the signal...And I will run the antenna wire accordingly...No issues there.

THANKS in advance!!

Mark

Hey Mark,

I just did this with my X and will be mounting the receiver in the ashtray using the power from under the glovebox. It fits like it was design for this location and the remote works with the ashtray closed!!

I am using the RF and it does not sound very good, actually sounds very bad even with the RF mounted right on the metal from the ant. I am going to do the aux in as soon as I have the chance. I would suggest the same to you.

Good luck.

J,

Thanks for the heads up...Looks like I will go straight to the aux as well. I have the factory NAV so I will need to do some searches to figure this out. I will also need to find where the power is in the glovebox...Was this hard to find?

Thanks!

I have the Sirius receiver in my ashtray. Looks clean, and you can close the door to hide it when you park. Only problem is that looking down there to read the display and messing with the buttons while driving is not always easy.

My X came with the unit installed from PO, and I have never bothered to tear apart the console to see what power source was used.

I am also using the RF, and the sound quality sucks. I am going to rewire using AUX soon.

Hey Mark,

The power is right under the glovebox on the far left. It is not in the glovebox, just get right down so you can see underneath. You will need to purchase the aux in kit and install it, so you may want to run the RF until you can get that. I found the FM ant in the rear left compartment and attached the Sat ant jumper to the exposed metal end then ran the wire up and along the bottom of the back seats then tucked under the trim until I got to the very front of the carpet. Not a final install, but everything is hidden away and it only took about a half an hour to do.

I have a remote with my receiver plus it has a mico sd slot and an additional aux in for my iPhone and the DVD player. I have all my stations saved so no need to fiddle. Once the receiver is mounted I will post pics.

I'm doing the aux install this weekend with the above post as guidance.

I bought my cable here: BMW E53 X5 Auxiliary Audio Input Cable 3.0 4.0 NW:eBay Motors (item 190342634723 end time Nov-16-09 16:45:15 PST)

Only reason I'm pimping this seller is I bought the wrong cable (I have nav and bought the non-nav input due to my stupidity/not reading the listing) and he let me exchange no problem which is pretty cool since I made the mistake. The install looks pretty easy.
