Air Con Help
Hey Guys,
Hoping you can help me. I have read a heap of posts on here about the FSR and various air con issues. About 2 weeks ago my aircon decided to stop cooling. The fan speed is constant The air is warm / just a little warmer than outside ambient Yesterday when the engine was hot the Aux fan fired up so thats working There is no smell Checked the fuses and they are all fine Do you have any suggestions, has anyone else experienced this? Thanks 2004 X5 4.4L Australia |

Sounds like either all your refridgerant leaked out or something is keeping the compressor from activating. You probably need to bring it in to a shop to have the pressures read and have themm search out the leaks if there is one.

refridgerant leaked out, and the leak is most likely the evaporator inside the vehicle , not an easy task to change that .
i had the same problem , you can add gas to it and it will work for a day or two. cj |

be careful of running the AC without refrigerant - it also acts as a type of lubricant for the compressor.

I had this problem a few years ago. Turned out to be leaky seals at the high and low ports. Common enough problem that was fixed with a set of new seals and a complete purge/recharge at an indy AC repair shop.

Thanks guys, for the replies....
How do i check to see if my compressor is getting power to engage the clutch? Where is the best place? Is it actually on the compressor its self and whats the easiest way of getting to it? Cheers |

Mason dont worry about that now just check the pressure first .
when the pressure is low the compressor will not switch on . cj |

Guys,
Ok fears confirmed I had the preassure checked and they are all fine, i need a new clutch on the compressor. I have read a few posts and know that there is a good repair for 3.0L from Kitit. Has anyone done a repair on a 4.4L. Have also searched to an inch of my life and cant find Kitit's original post with images etc does anyone have a link? Cheers, Mason |
