I recently had the same problem w/ my 3.0 (Low Oil Level) - It came 5k miles after oil change at the dealer. They told me it was when the engine looses a quart of oil but there was almost none left in there at all. I added a quart but couldn't believe that they ever put in 8.5 at the change and it got burned up this fast.

I don't have any leakage or smoke either so I was just as puzzled and pretty much chose to let it be until i get some other symptoms to go on. Please keep us updated with your situation.

your engine only takes 6.9quarts., but the 3.0 does eat a lot of oil

That's odd...my '01 manual says 7.9 qts; I've personally changed it
several times pouring in ~8, as does my Indie when they do it.

My oil consumption has leveled off and even reduced, as the mileage passed 50k
and especially now, at 75k+ miles.

It's closer to 7.5 because of the AWD. But the v8 takes 8-8.5 depending on MY

I'm seeing the same thing on mine...always takes a tad bit over 8 qts on my '04 3.0i.
