engine died
I have a 2003 X5 3.0I (new to me) with 114,000 miles on it, and yesterday by mistake while in park I was leaning out of window and foot hit the gas pedal and the engine rev'd very high. No idea how high but it didn't last but a second or two. Normally I wouldn't think much of this but today i am driving down the highway, (5 miles) get off and smell oil burning. I think its someone else but I pull into a store parking lot and the car dies.
I get out and sure enough the smell is coming from my car. I look under neath and see oil not dripping but oil on the front aft sway bar(for lack of a better term) on the passenger side. I could not start the car again. Didn't want to screw up any further so I had it towed home.
Pulled the large pan that covers the bottom of the engine, and noticed oil stains on the exhoust pipe coming from engine (vertical drop before doing 90 back to cat). I did some more looking around and it looks wet with oil at the rear cyclinder position above the heat sheilds that sit above engine exhaust manifold.
Pulled the oil fill cap and noticed what looks like a milky substance (yeah my thoughts too, blown head gasket). drained oil and took filter out and din't see any increase in fluid nor did i see any antifreeze in it.
I need some suggestions but my next thought was to do a compression check on each cyclinder. Does any one know what the factory numbers would be (rangelow to high acceptable and allowable difference between cyclinders).
If anyone has had this before would love to have some ideas.
Thanks and drinking allot
