Fault testing tools

Hi guys,

What do you all use to test and reset all your codes and issues etc?

I had a look at the Peake tool, but they said it only really resets the engine light?

What are the options? Is there something that combines with a laptop?

Cheers

Brett

Hi Brett,

I have this one: Bavarian Technic BMW & Mini Cooper Software Diagnostic Tools it is a piece of software and a USB connected cable. Did all I wanted to have which was:

having a look if there are errors somewhere
resetting the errors
playing around with testing

nothing complicated - just wanted to make sure that I can wipe out an error when I produce one playing around with the truck.

Regards

That looks like a very good piece of kit with having live reading features etc.

I have bought mine around the corner in Switzerland at Welcome! - AUTOtronic.ch they have a lot of scanners. Not sure if they still have the one I have.

looks good, wold be great if you could use it with a PDA instead of a laptop, I think it is a bit too complicated though. Will definitely buy this in a few weeks.

I would rather get a INPA cable and use it with the EDIABAS suite mostly for NCS tweaks and DIS mostly for diagnosis and service plans suggestions.

Ebay, as usual. Try searching for "bmw inpa" or "inpa obd".
However, people in here craft it from any regular dual K line VAG cable, which is much cheaper. It goes around $30, compared to around $100 for the INPA ready cable. By crafting I mean joining the 2 PINs to make it compatible with INPA and eventually adding a transistor on the chip to also get the car battery voltage signal during the diagnosis (not really mandatory though). Anyway, I think you might want to get dirty and craft your own cable, for the $70 difference.
