Thumbs up Transmission differences ?

Anyone who has had an "older" automatict transmission vs the Selectronic...(06 X5 3.0 sport prem))
It seems to me, that the Selectronic has a totally different "feel", it shifts very smoothly almost like "zip...zip" feeling very quickly and registers only a few hundred revs of difference at a time, as against the older 4 speed auto in my 99 528...
Is this what you generally experience?
I have owned quite a few automatic BMW's (at least 10) and this transmission seems a HUGE improvement , I have only had this car (truck) a few weeks and It is growing on me....not that I didn't enjoy all the previous BMW's
