Poll on rebuilt / replacement tranny's

I am taking a poll to see who has experienced a failure in their transmission (both GM and ZF) out of warranty and CPO. Reason for that is I would like to gather information for those out of warranty and CPO as usually the dealer is doing the work under both. If you had one done under an extended warranty please provide what information you can.

1) What year, size motor and what brand was the tranny (ZF or GM)?
2) At what mileage did you transmission fail (out of warranty and CPO)?
3) Did you have your transmission fluid changed anytime prior to its failure?
3) Was the tranny rebuilt, taken from used car, or a remanufactured tranny?
If rebuilt or a remanufactured tranny, what is the name and location of them?
5) Does your rebuilt / remanufactured tranny come with a warranty?
6) How many miles do you have on it since it has been repaired / replaced?
7) Are you satisfied with the rebuild / remanufactured tranny (so far)?
8) If tranny work was done on extended warranty was it a pain to get warranty company to flip the bill?
9) Who was the company you had extended warranty with?

My goal is to be able to use the results for all current and new members to see where folks have gone and use that as a tool if and when they need to go.

Thank you

You'll probably have better luck compiling the information yourself as this topic is already discussed in nassaun over all the 3, 5, 7, 8 and X boards since the mid 90's.

1) What year, size motor and what brand was the tranny (ZF or GM)?

2004 X5, 4.8is, ZF

2) At what mileage did you transmission fail (out of warranty and CPO)?

51K, out of BMW warranty, covered by extended warranty

3) Did you have your transmission fluid changed anytime prior to its failure?

No Transmission Fluid change (but I bought the X5 used at 40K miles)

3) Was the tranny rebuilt, taken from used car, or a remanufactured tranny?

remanufactured by BMW (In stock item in thier west coast parts warehouse)

If rebuilt or a remanufactured tranny, what is the name and location of them?

remanufactured by BMW

5) Does your rebuilt / remanufactured tranny come with a warranty?

Yes, 2 year warranty from BMW (plus remaining 2 years of the extended warranty after that)

6) How many miles do you have on it since it has been repaired / replaced?

400 miles so far!

7) Are you satisfied with the rebuild / remanufactured tranny (so far)?

Yes, very satisfied, the transmission is running great!

8) If tranny work was done on extended warranty was it a pain to get warranty company to flip the bill?

No, the BMW dealer took their time and had all their findings on the transmission in order, the extended warranty folks had to drop by the BMW dealership to look at the transmission and findings, the repair was approved the next day, cost was $8K

9) Who was the company you had extended warranty with?

National Warranty Corporation - Eugene, Oregon

My goal is to be able to use the results for all current and new members to see where folks have gone and use that as a tool if and when they need to go.

Thank you
