you're kidding right? Yes, you need to change it at regular intervals. I use 8qts of 0w-40 and an OEM filter.

If you have an oil leak and enough leaks out, then you are in effect changing the oil when you top it off each week. The filter is german-engineered, so you know that is good for the life of the vehicle.

Huh? You're kidding, right?
That's some serious "topping off" to replace 8 qts in any time frame...
I must have missed the marketing bulletin that suggested the oil filter
"is good for the life of the vehicle", whether "german-engineered" or,
alien engineered.

i was told by ex-bmw engr that the reason why bmw said that their transmission oil is good for life is because of their superior ATF filter. wonder where did this info about engine oil filter being good for the life come from? this is really new.

Whoa, slow down fellas. I know the intranets are serious business, but I was only kidding. The correct answer is to change your oil and filter on the interval specified in your owner's manual. That was just a lot less fun to post.

Welcome to the internet, motordavid and Rockmellon. Some things you read here may not be completely true!!! Enjoy your stay.
